Basically Thirty-Something
This week began with a birthday.
Over the past few months I've been coming to terms with the fact that 30 cometh, much in the same way the Iceman does (or doth?). However, this year has also had me pretty preoccupied with dating a beautiful woman, falling in love, and getting married. So I put the impending nature of the big THREE-OH behind me.
I should also note that this week's birthday was not my thirtieth. It was my twenty-ninth.
Yes, I've been getting a jump on dreading thirty by more than a year. But that didn't stop me from getting lots of congratulations on turning thirty. It would seem that my friends are also anticipating my gradual decent into the geriatric world, and celebrated with me accordingly.
Now let's make an unsubtle transition to the topic of this blog.
One of my goals for this year has been to get back to writing. It's not a new goal. For years, I've attempted to make it back to the "glory days" of college (when I was flat broke, stressed out of my mind by the simplest of tasks, but writing daily. I'd like to return to that euphoria--sans the broke and stressed).
The goals I've set for this year (my 29th, not my 30th) are three-fold:
1. Develop healthy habits and daily routines with my wife
2. Continue to work towards certification as a Real Estate Appraiser
3. Work on one major writing project (at a time), and keep this blog current
The first goal I'll write about in the future. The second, I'm sure I'll mention... but it's boring, trust me. The third goal... Yes. The third goal will be this blog. (Well, and the major writing project. But maybe I'll mention that later.)
Mostly, I'll write about topics related to the season of life I am in now--or sometimes maybe I'll just relate a story from my day. At any rate, since the big topics in life now are marriage and career, and since many of my friends have assumed I'm already there, it seemed fitting to title this page "Basically Thirty-Something."
The perspective will transition and change, I'm sure. Maybe at some point, the focus of my writing will change. But for now, I'll be writing from the perspective of a newly-wed on the cusp of being thirty-something.
Since I am. Or will be soon.
Looking forward to it :)
